How to Install OpenCV-Python (cv2) in Anaconda - Installing OpenCV-Python (cv2) in Anaconda is a relatively easy task for those who are familiar with making a new Python environment and installing packages. OpenCV-Python (cv2) is a highly popular library used in computer vision and image processing. The process can be a little bit daunting for those who are new to Python and Anaconda.
Installing OpenCV-Python requires the anaconda prompt and PIP to allow for the installation of OpenCV-Python (cv2). The installation should not take more than 5-10 minutes for most users and begin by opening up Anaconda prompt and typing the following command.
• pip install opencv-python
Immediately after the command is run, a progress bar will appear and show the progress of the download. After the progress bar is complete, you have finished the installation of opencv-python. To test that the installation was completed successfully, launch the python interpreter, import cv2 and then print the version of OpenCV installed.

This should print out an indication that OpenCV was installed correctly, usually something like
3.x.x
If you’re having trouble properly installing OpenCV-Python, you can use the Anaconda Navigator GUI to preconfigure the environment and install OpenCV-Python. To do this, open the navigation pane, select Environments, and then ‘Create’. Then type the name of your environment, such as ‘opencv’ and select Python from the drop-down list. Then on the right-hand side, click the ‘Not Installed’ drop-down menu and select opencv-python. Then click the ‘Apply’ button and the files will be downloaded and installed.
Alternatively, you can use the Anaconda prompt to prefetch the packages and use the pip command. Run the following in Anaconda prompt:
• conda create --name (name of your environment)
• activate (name of your environment)
• conda install -c conda-forge opencv
This will install the latest version of OpenCV-Python. After it is completed, type the python command and test out the OpenCV with the same commands as before.
OpenCV-Python is a highly popular library used in computer vision and image processing. Installing it on Anaconda is not difficult and there are two different ways to do it, either through the PIP command in Anaconda Prompt or by simply entering the name of the package in the Anaconda NavigatorGUI. Whichever way you choose you should have a working copy of OpenCV-Python on Anaconda.
